Two weeks of memories =)

Lots has happened in two weeks!! Lots of transitioning....lots of GREAT things!
Justin and I settled down in our new home in Texas! We've met some wonderfully nice people, visited some great churches, the house is all unpacked, I started my amazing teaching job, and Justin has started pilot training!! We had a date night before he headed to IFS. It is one of the biggest blessing to be married to your soul mate and your best friend. He truly is an amazing man.
I got to visit home for a week! Everyone is doing wonderful. They gave me a surprise early Birthday party!! It was so sweet and meant so much to me. Mel is loving band camp!! The twins are growing so much and learning new fun things like sitting in their bumbo and holding their heads up...they're even EATING rice cereal :0) Daddy took them on their first 4 wheeler ride the night of my party and man was it a sweet memory!
It was a special week for the Brazells!! Mr. Mike came back and we all got to go welcome him at the airport!! Daniel was the cutest little boy walking up to Papa and giving him a big hug! And of course we had to go to Five Guys, it's one of Justin's favs, so I made sure to eat some for him ;)

It's been a good two weeks! God is GOOD!! Thanks for praying for us through this transition...it really has been a blessing.

Love, R & J

*our prayer request:
  1. Justin's success and safety while flying in Colorado.
  2. The almost 80 students I will have in school this year. May God use me to make a forever impact in their lives.
  3. May God give us strength day to day.

He is my Comfort.

One of the most powerful chapters in the Bible has been right under my nose my whole life. The title of the Chapter is "COMFORT for God's People". Of course there are many verses that can be our comfort, but this has been my comfort the past two weeks. My dear and new friend, Elaine shared this with me before our husbands headed to Colorado. I'd like to ask you to take a few minutes and read the promises God gives us in this chapter. There is something very powerful about reading God's Word aloud. Try it :)
(I highlighted my favorite parts!)
Comfort for God's People
1 Comfort, comfort my people,
says your God.

2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and proclaim to her
that her hard service has been completed,
that her sin has been paid for,
that she has received from the LORD's hand
double for all her sins.

3 A voice of one calling:
"In the desert prepare
the way for the LORD;
make straight in the wilderness
a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain.

5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed,
and all mankind together will see it.
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

6 A voice says, "Cry out."
And I said, "What shall I cry?"
"All men are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.

7 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the LORD blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.

8 The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God stands forever."

9 You who bring good tidings to Zion,
go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem,
lift up your voice with a shout,
lift it up, do not be afraid;
say to the towns of Judah,
"Here is your God!"

10 See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power,
and his arm rules for him.
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.

11 He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
he gently leads those that have young.

12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
or weighed the mountains on the scales
and the hills in a balance?

13 Who has understood the mind of the LORD,
or instructed him as his counselor?

14 Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him,
and who taught him the right way?
Who was it that taught him knowledge
or showed him the path of understanding?

15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.

16 Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires,
nor its animals enough for burnt offerings.

17 Before him all the nations are as nothing;
they are regarded by him as worthless
and less than nothing.

18 To whom, then, will you compare God?
What image will you compare him to?

19 As for an idol, a craftsman casts it,
and a goldsmith overlays it with gold
and fashions silver chains for it.

20 A man too poor to present such an offering
selects wood that will not rot.
He looks for a skilled craftsman
to set up an idol that will not topple.

21 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood since the earth was founded?

22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,
and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy,
and spreads them out like a tent to live in.

23 He brings princes to naught
and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.

24 No sooner are they planted,
no sooner are they sown,
no sooner do they take root in the ground,
than he blows on them and they wither,
and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.

25 "To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.

26 Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one,
and calls them each by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.

27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
and complain, O Israel,
"My way is hidden from the LORD;
my cause is disregarded by my God"?

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

I am learning that every single day of our lives, He is there. Not only when I'm lonely or when I'm overwhelmed, but every single moment. The Evil one wants us to think that God may not care or that God may put fear in your life for a reason, but that is a LIE. Our God, who created this Earth, does not miss a thing.

Just an update for those of you who have asked, I am doing surprisingly well while Justin is off to training. He's also doing wonderful, and succeeding daily in his training!! Our prayers have been answered as He has given us both success and safety. We miss one another so much and love to send random emails, texts, and skype one another.

Thanks for your prayers!! We'll stay in touch :)

Love y'all!

Our life in "Texico"

So proud of my Airman that graduated in July from ASBC!! Just the beginning of many successes :)

So we live in a place where sometimes you're in Texas and sometimes you feel like you stepped into Mexico! It's totally new and really neat in a way! We have been here over 3 weeks and are still learning so much about our new home. One of our favorite places so far has been the historic down town. It is absolutely beautiful....it has a large vineyard, a cute bed and breakfast, and everything is so quaint and historic. We also like the big lake here! We were driving to it the other day and almost drove into it...they don't have barriers like Lake Murray in Lexington!!

We just finished decorating and unpacking at our new home. It's so cute and feels like a home :) Our living room is called our South Carolina room :)

Justin has been very busy studying and of course doing PAPER WORK...
He's beginning his flight training in Colorado soon and I'll be visiting home during that time and starting work! I got a job teaching 5th grade!!

There have been some definite differences that we've noticed:
  • Different trees...no oak trees...mostly Leaning Pines.
  • The wind blows all the time...it's kinda nice considering it's in the 100's everyday.
  • Not everyone has our southern hospitality, and not everyone gets it :)
  • The style of the homes is very different...more westernized...close to the ground.
  • Very wide open spaces...feel like you're closer to the sun.
  • NO HUMIDITY...we have had chapped lips and dry skin, but have found the solutions!!
  • Time moves slower. No one's in a rush and that has it's perks too!
  • Most everyone is bi-lingual...we're working on that :)
God is teaching me so much about getting my strength from Him. I've enjoyed my time playing the guitar again and reading. Justin and I were talking the other night about how we are just learners on a journey...we have never claimed to know it all, and that's a wonderful place to be! So here we are, newlyweds, growing and learning more everyday here in "Texico" =)

We love you all! Thanks for your prayers.

~Our prayer request is: Success in jobs and Safety as we are apart this month.

The Fourth with Family and Friends!

We were blessed to have a long weekend and got to come home for a short visit! We had so much fun and I thought I'd share some pictures!

The first three pictures are time we got to spend with our precious nephews and niece! Anna Claire and Charlie are growing so much and are becoming so strong with their head control! They also amazed us by their awareness with colors and sounds! Daniel has learned more words and is much more confident around the pool! He understands so much of what we are saying and has started repeating words you say. We love all 3 of them lots and can't wait till Caroline (our neice on the way) comes to join them in October!

The next two pictures are the two families at the 4th of July celebration on Sunday! It was so great to see all of our friends and to celebrate with both families together. The preacher spoke about the importance of a life vocation...not a job, but as Websters puts it: "vocation - a function or station in life to which one is called by God." Whatever God calls us to do, do it with your whole heart.

The following four pictures are the family get-togethers. We had a wonderful time at the Peach Festival with my family. There's nothing like peach ice cream, little merchandise stands, and the Gilbert Parade :) Then we went to Justin's Uncle's house to celebrate with his family in the pool! We also celebrated his Grandma's 80th Birthday! We ended the day with a barbecue and fire works at my family's house. It was so neat to sit around and listen to all the fun stories of times past. There's so much we can learn from these experiences. And of course we headed to Memaws for Sunday lunch the next day :)

As we headed out of Columbia we got the most beautiful view! I love those moments when you feel like God is giving you a gift of natures beauty!

Justin and I are back safely in "sweet home Alabama". We are growing closer and more in love everyday. I have to tell you how amazed we were as we were talking and realized that God was teaching us the same thing today during our quiet time! God lead me to the story of Elijah and how he waited for years to see the rain and how he prayed 7 times on the top of the mountain before the rain came and it was a "down pour". I told Justin how this was teaching me to wait and pray. To not expect those down pours after one talk with God. Justin was reading from Ecclesiastes about how their is "a time for everything". God was putting the same thing on his heart about waiting for the Lord and His timing. We all worship a God who is into the details of our life and that is AWESOME!! OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD!!

Thanks so much for you friendship and prayers! We love you all!

A Praise!
-We have been assigned a nice house in Del Rio that has more room that we'd asked for!!

Lessons of the soul and Experiences in 'sweet home Alabama'

Some of the hardest words for me to say is "I surrender. I give it up. No strings attached." Many times, God calls us to do and say the things that are the hardest for us. Why? Because then, and only then, we get to see that He, and only He, can give us strength. And when we have that strength, it will not leave us. We are stronger than we realize. He is stronger than we realize.

When I was 13, I had to say to Jesus, "I surrender my sinful self into your hands." I knew that I couldn't change the selfish and sinful person I was without surrendering it to Him. When I was 17, I had to say to Jesus, "I surrender my profession and future to your hands." I knew that I couldn't accomplish college without his guidance and without surrendering my plans to Him. When I was 19, I had to say to Jesus, "I surrender my confused and hurt heart into your hands." I knew in that moment that my heart was unable to be repaired with His love that conquers all. After that summer, He brought Justin back into my life. When I was 21, I had to say to Jesus, "I surrender the man I love into your hands." I knew that only God knew how to make our paths cross and our future plans combine. And now, at almost 23, I am again saying, "I surrender my plans, dreams into your hands." Because I know that only God knows the exact time He will reveal to me His exact place for me.

In church today, we sang a praise song called "I Surrender". It was a new song to me, but it was amazing how much it connected to my current state. It was so joyful to sing out loud the outpouring of my soul to Jesus! At some point in our busy lives, we all will come to this place at different times, where we must sing and shout to Jesus, "I surrender ALL to you, ALL to you!"
Here's a link to the praise song:

As our preacher said, "The love of Christ will drive you to do things you'd never do without Him."

Thank you for your prayers as we search for God's purpose for me in Texas. He is so good, and is showing Justin and me more clarity everyday.

Love, R & J

Here are some fun pictures of the past week!

Justin with his ASBC class "The Dragons!". They were doing "The X Factor" challenges.
The wives got to go watch "The X Factor" challenges from the cat walk above. It was so much fun to watch the husbands figuring out the solutions :)

Enjoying the Journey

You know how some songs just hit you at the perfect moment in life. Maybe I'm weird, but music has always been a huge part in my life. Tonight as Justin and I drove to explore our new home, this song came on the radio. The song is written around the idea of life being a journey. It was neat because Justin and I were having a conversation about not focusing on getting to the next place, but enjoying every step of the way. Taking in the moments, together. Like my sister Kathy said, no matter where you are in life, there is always going to be trials, it's just about finding the positive. This also makes me think of a verse Mrs. Donna gave us before we left when Jesus says, "but after I have been raised, I will go before you (Mark 14:28) ." This journey that we all are on called life has many mountains to climb, but take joy that the Lord is going before you and will protect and guide you. Focus on the joys and memories along the way while you're climbing. And at some point, find a quite place, and enjoy the view :)

Love, R & J

The Climb lyrics

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head sayin

"You'll never reach it"

Every step I'm taking

Every move I make feels

Lost with no direction

My faith is shaking

But I gotta keep trying

Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain

I'm always gonna wanna make it move

Always gonna be a uphill battle

Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there

Ain't about what's waiting on the other side

It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing

The chances I'm taking

Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I'm not breaking

I may not know it

But these are the moments that

I'm gonna remember most, yeah

Just gotta keep going

And I, I got to be strong

Just keep pushing on

'Cause there's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move

Always gonna be a uphill battle

Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there

Ain't about what's waiting on the other side

It's the climb, yeah!

There's always gonna be another mountain

I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle

Somebody's gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there

Ain't about what's waiting on the other side

It's the climb, yeah!

Keep on moving, keep climbing

Keep the faith, baby

It's all about, it's all about the climb

Keep the faith, keep your faith, whoa

We are super excited about the week ahead...first paycheck, first work week for JB, and I get to go with my family to Disney World!!!! So grateful for how smoothly the first few days have been. I'm loving this time to catch up on some reading, scrapbooking, and having time to enjoy a new place! I'm learning my way around base and enjoyed my first trip to the commesary (grocery store) today...the prices are great!! God is so faithful and loving. We both are continuing to learn a lot about trusting in God, loving each other, protecting your marriage, and having a daily walk and relationship with God. Thank you for your prayers.

Love, R&J

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not treat prophecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil." -1 Thes. 5: 16-22
